Microsurgery Training Laboratory
The Microsurgery Training Laboratory at the National University Hospital, Singapore was established in 2002 by the Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery with the goal of making microsurgery an integral part of a surgeon's training in various specialities. Over the years our laboratory has become an internationally known state-of-the-art teaching facility in microsurgery. Our training courses are approved by the Institutional Animal care and Use Committee (IACUC) of the National University of Singapore.
Our microsurgery training laboratory provides a structured course that leads to the acquisition of clinically applicable microsurgical skills. The training module include a video presentation followed by practical exercises. The practical sessions are closely monitored by the instructor, who provides continuous guidance throughout the course. We continuously assess your performance with our patented microtrainer and purpose built scoring system. This data is used for research purposes and further improvement to the course.
We have courses that cater to all levels of microsurgical experience from the novice to the experienced microsurgeon. The five-day Certificate Course in Microsurgery is the core course in our laboratory. It caters to advanced surgical trainees that want to upgrade their microsurgical skills. We also shorter and more focused microsurgical training courses. They include the 'Introductory Course' aimed at medical students and nursing staff, 'Basic Course' aimed at surgical residents, 'Refresher Courses' for experienced surgeons who would like to brush up on their microsurgical skills, and 'Advanced Courses' for training specific microsurgical skills like an end-to-side anastomosis etc. Our laboratory is also available for research personnel who would like to utilize the facilities to conduct workshops or research requiring microsurgery.
